A good portion of this club is dedicated to preserving waterfowl and wildlife habitat to ensure there will always be live waterfowl living on the club in the future. There are 19 strategic hunting locations (duck blinds) located within the wetland habitat and rice areas.
LOCATION: Cortina is a historic 100-year-old waterfowl hunting club and is located three (3) miles m/l north of the Colusa National Waterfowl Refuge Sanctuary and two (2) miles south of the Delevan National Waterfowl Refuge. The east border of the property is just west of the 2047 Colusa drain canal which flows between and through the Colusa National Waterfowl Refuge, the Delevan National Waterfowl Refuge and also the Sacramento National Waterfowl Refuge. This large canal (river) has always been the main flight pattern between these three awesome waterfowl sanctuaries. Location is the name of the game when it comes to successful waterfowl hunting! DESCRIPTION/ZONING: Cortina consists of 640 total acres, m/l that is presently zoned Resource Management, (RM). Approximately 46% (295 acres) of Cortina has been converted to wetland habitat for waterfowl hunting purposes, although there have not been any encumbering easements placed on the wetlands by the USA or California State, so they can still be farmed (rice, corn, wetland plants, etc). RICE INCOME: Cortina’s 324.43 acres of rice producing land produces income which helps support the hunting club’s yearly expenses. The rice income helps to keep yearly assessments low. YEARLY CLUB ASSESSMENTS: Approximately $2,500 per man, per year. SOILS: The soil on this property is primarily Willows Silty clay which is excellent for rice production as well as for wetland waterfowl habitat. WATER: Maxwell Irrigation District provides water for the rice production and the wetland habitat. This property is 51’ to 52’ above sea level (Zone AE) and is subject to flooding. The clubhouse is protected by a surrounding levee. OIL, GAS & MINERAL RIGHTS: All oil, gas and mineral rights on this property are held by the Cortina Land and Cattle Corporation (22) shareholders. INGRESS/EGRESS: The property is accessed through a locked gate at 3504 San Jose road located on the west side of the property. ASSESSOR PARCEL NUMBER: Colusa County assessor parcel number 015-050-008-000 (640 acres m/l). PROPERTY TAXES: The annual taxes are $14,480. BUILDINGS: Clubhouse provides: TV room, dining room, kitchen and showers. Each team has a 2-person sleeping quarters. There is another building facility for processing your waterfowl (waxer and cleaning etc). Cortina provides year-round caretakers and meals are served during the hunting season.
